JOHN CHITTY
Just because I work with men does not make me sexist or misogynous.
I am fully aware that women need protection, justice and laws.
I simply want equality. Over a third of domestic abuse cases are instigated by women (Women's Aid statement)
The protection, justice and laws are practically non existent for men
John was born in Kent in 1967. He left school with a hand full of O'Levels and after chasing his childhood dream of being a jockey (yes you read it correctly) he felt a calling to the ministry and was ordained a Methodist Minister at Liverpool Cathedral. (don't be put off)
He was a British Armed Forces Chaplain, Prison Chaplain, University Chaplain and then School Chaplain. He obtained a Hons Degree in Theology and Counselling (2:1).
At the break down of his first marriage he became a teacher gaining his qualification in two terms. From there he worked in State Boarding Schools, ending his career as Senior Vice Principal at Wymondham College; the leading and largest State Boarding School in Europe voted school of the year.
Despite his successful career which also included Ofsted Advisor for State School Inspections, Leadership Consultant to largest trust in UK, once again his personal life matched with stressful work commitments lead to a break down at the age of 49.
"The next few years where the darkest of my life. I had my eyes open not only to the healing I needed but to the inept lack of support for men with challenging mental health conditions and to the complete lack of justice within our caring and legal system for men who had experienced domestic abuse. I had nowhere to turn to. I self medicated and was in a mess. Then I met my therapist (private not NHS) and my life began to change."
John was arrested in front of his own children and later arrested on three other occasions all based on how his partner felt. No evidence at all. Despite struggling mentally from his own abusive relationships and un healed trauma he was taken to Crown Court. He was offered a plea deal but refused to take it. On arriving at Crown Court the police gave up information that proved his partner had lied. The Police already knew this when he was offered the deal. She was not allowed to take the stand by the judge.
"It was three of the most frightening days of my life. I knew I had done nothing wrong yet there I was in the dock with a jury that could have sent me down for 6 years and a CPS barrister dedicated to prove my guilt."
Police even added documentation not in the original arrest and charge, manipulated interviews and lied on the stand.
"I was found unnanamously not guilty on all three charges. The relief was palpable. The judge even stated that children Mothers and Fathers that really needed us were not allowed justice today because this rubbish had been brought to his court"
It was these experiences that caused John to work as a therapist with male victims of domestic abuse and false allegations finally founding CHITT-CHAT in 2023
John is a trauma based integrated therapist with over 30 years experience in several fields, He is also now an expert in recovery from narcisistic abuse. He is the UK representative of DAVIA (Domestic Abuse and Violence International Alliance)
